EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Deligo Technologies was hired by Sun Hydraulics, manufacturer of cartridges and manifolds for fluid power systems, to somehow take millions of possible parts combinations and make them all configurable – by customers – online. CHALLENGE
Sun Hydraulics, like many mid-sized manufacturers, is committed to implementing successful productivity innovations with much less fanfare than its larger competitors. Sun is still publicly traded, though, and has to justify every expense to its shareholders.
Sun Hydraulics came to Deligo after watching CEO and President Tom Kelly present his extremely forward-thinking ideas on changing the face of ETO manufacturing. Sun challenged Deligo to design a system that would take into consideration its global growth, and its commitment to waste reduction and lean manufacturing.
RESULTS
Deligo Technologies worked closely with upper management, sales, marketing, engineering and Sun’s existing Pro/ENGINEER technology to implement Iced*CAD, and deliver on-the-fly detail and process drawings directly to shop floor personnel for manufacturing.
Customers of Sun have called the Iced*CAD implementation “visualization on steroids” because the process of delivering complicated drawings right to engineers’ desktops is so intuitive for the user. Additional results include more productive design teams, immediately productive shop floor staff, happier customers, reduced risk of waste during manufacture, and the ability to access more than 20 million different configurations of an assembly within minutes.
WHAT THE CLIENT SAID
“Having data on demand grows sales. We chose to use Iced*CAD based on things like efficiency, competitive advantage, and our own objectives and sales strategies. … We carefully studied our options, and the bottom line is that once we became fully able to give product data on-demand, our sales grew 35%! Deligo wasn’t the only factor, but it certainly helped.” |
