Deligo Technologies has created this Glossary of Terms to help those without backgrounds in technology and computer aided design understand the terms and concepts used to describe what we do, and how it improves your bottom line. We hope this provides you with a wealth of information and that you find it to be an easy-to-use, always available source. We invite you to add new terms and descriptions at the end of this Glossary.

CAD
An acronym for computer-aided design.

CONFIGURE
To set up a program or computer system for a particular application.

DATABASE
A collection of information organized in such a way that a computer program can quickly select desired pieces of data. A database can be thought of as an electronic filing system.

DXF (Data Exchange File)
A two-dimensional graphics file format supported by virtually all PC- based CAD products.

HURDLE RATE
The required rate of return in a discounted cash flow analysis, above which an Investment makes sense and below which it does not.

HTML (HyperText Markup Language)
The authoring language used to create documents on the World Wide Web.

Java
A general purpose programming language with a number of features that make the language well suited for use on the World Wide Web.

NPV (Net Present Value)
Compares the value of a dollar today versus the value of that same dollar in the future, after taking inflation and return into account.

PDF (Portable Document Format)
A file format that captures formatting information from a variety of desktop publishing applications, making it possible to send formatted documents and have them appear on the recipient’s monitor or printer as they were intended.

PLM (Product Lifestyle Management)
A strategic business approach that applies a consistent set of business solutions that support the collaborative creation, management, dissemination, and use of product definition information.

PORTAL
A site featuring a suite of commonly used services, serving as a starting point and frequent gateway to the Web (Web portal) or a niche topic (vertical portal).

SQL (Structured Query Language)
A standardized query language for requesting information from a database.

XML (Extensible Markup Language)
Allows designers to create their own customized tags, enabling the definition, transmission, validation, and interpretation of data between applications and between organizations.     

Industry Terms

ETO (Engineered to Order)
ETO technology allows components to be rapidly assembled into a wide variety of finished products in response to unique customer orders.

BOM (Bill of Material)
Defines the product structure in terms of materials and provides an optional connection to plant resources such as machinery, tooling, and labor.

COFES (Conference of the Future of Engineering Software)
The engineering software industry’s only annual think tank event which brings executives from design, engineering, architectural, development and technology companies together to understand the role engineering technology will play in the future survival and success of business.

CORPORATE CULTURE
The collection of beliefs, expectations, and values shared by an organization’s members and transmitted from one generation of employees to another. The culture sets rules of conduct that define acceptable behavior of employees of the organization.

ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning)
A business management system that integrates all facets of the business, including planning, manufacturing, sales, and marketing.

IRR (Internal Rate of Return)
The discount rate that results in a net present value of zero for a series of future cash flows.

MASS CUSTOMIZATION
The use of flexible computer-aided manufacturing systems to produce custom output.

MODIFIED REBUY
This falls in-between the New Order Buy and the Straight Buy. Some Review of the buying process is done but not as much as in a new order buy.

NEW ORDER BUYING
When an organization has a new need and the customer wants a great deal of information.

ROI (Return on Investment)
A key financial metric of the value of business investments and expenditures. It is a ratio of net benefits over costs expressed as a percentage.

STRAIGHT REBUY
A routine repurchase that uses existing suppliers to fill a standard order.
